Knoxville where the soccer team
won by scores of 5-0 over LSU, 3-1
over Georgia Tech and 2-1 over an
established varsity opponent in
Georgia State.
The team returned to Columbia
with the championship trophy
along with Ken Jefferson winning
the All-Tournament Goalie and
The Most Valuable Player
Awards.
Also on the All-Tournament team
was Don Belt, a forwardl. Another
award brought home by the
Gamecocks was the All
Tournament Coach Award, an
award for good sportsmanship and
fine team play.
The team rewrote practically all
the records possible in the way of
defense. Among the records were:
best team defense per game-.67;
most shutouts-1; top goalie-.67
goals per game.
By capturing the tourney title,
Carolina boosted its record to 7-6-3
with one scheduled game
remaining. However the team
might possibly attempt to schedule
at least one more home game.

Playoffs
Underway
The battle to determine who will
reign king among intramural
football teams on campus is now
being raged with several teams in
the thick of competition.
Last Monday Town Men downed
a determined Moore squad 26-19.
Chi Psi thrashed Lamda Chi Alpha
39-7. NROTC edged Alpha Tau
Omega, 14-6.
The championship game will be
played on Nov. 20. Trophies will be
presented to the championship
team and also the first and second
place teams.

that Huff did. Mark Orlando has hit
on just 48 per cent of his
passes and his interceptionsthrown
outnumber his touchdowns, seven
to four. Orlando's backups are
even less prolific throwing the ball,
with Billy Sexton completing 38
per cent of his passes and Billy
Prescott hitting slightly better at
48 per cent.
State's running backs, Hodges
Mitchell and Mike Davidson, have
scored two touchdowns between
them. That compares quite un
favorably with USC's JayLynn.
Hodgin, who has scored seven
touchdowns rushing by himself.
Carolina's quarterback remains
a question mark. Jeff Grantz has
taken his cast off and he will start
if he is able to run without any
trouble. If Grantz, who leads USC
in total offense with 1364 yards,
cannot play, Ron Bass will. Bass
rushed for over 100 yards against
Appalachian State last week.
Saturday's contest might give
some indication of how much of a
factor motivation plays in a college
game. USC is favored 14 points,
and considering Carolina has
exhibited a good offense and
Florida State has shown almost
none, Carolina should experience
little difficulty surpassing the two
touchdown margin.
But, neither USC or Florida State
has forgotten last year and those
memories could cause USC's battle
with 0-9 Florida State to be quite
interesting.
