Student Sen. Robert B. Clarkson
said Tuesday the actions of USC
officials have helped bring about
his pending law suit against the
USC Board of Trustees.
Clarkson, speaking to a press
conference in the Law Center, said
if he had received more
cooperation from the ad
ministration in releasing financial
figures, the court suit may have
been avoided.
"I did not really want to sue
those who I hope will sign my
diploma in May of next year.

An accidental shooting occured
at the Campus Club Halloween
night leaving one USC student
injured.
C.J. Holloway of Columbia was
accidentally shot in the face and
right eye Oct. 31 as he leaned over
a balcony inside the Campus
Club. Holloway was immediately
sent to the Richland Memorial
Hospital but was later moved to the
Medical Center in Charleston for
further treatment. The condition

Chairman T. Eston Marchant have
refused to meet with me,"
Clarkson said.
Clarkson also said the Student
Allocations Commission (SAC),
which administers the student
activity fee, has been advised by
the administration not to reply to
Clarkson's complaints.
The suit, filed Nov. 1 in South
Carolina Circuit Court, seeks to
have the use of mandatory fees by
student organizations for "political
and charitable purposes" declared
illegal until proper guidelines can
be drawn up.
Clarkson said the administration
has 20 days to reply to his suit.
Once into court he hopes to use
"discovery proceedings" which
would require the administration
to hand over information -that has
been withheld, Clarkson said.
If his action is successful,
Clarkson said, the administration
will be forced to establish
guidelines for organizational ex
penditures, halt the use of funds for
political and charitable activities
and open administration books to
the media and students.
The suit, Clarkson said, is not
directed at the wasteful ex
penditures "of student government
per se, because one prime purpose
of student government is to give
experience to student bureaucrats
in spending funds.

Transcendental Meditation is
described as a "simple, natural
technique.....to bring about greater
activity, inner peacefulness and
greater happiness."
This description was given by
Jamie Vollmer and Larry Krieger,
who have decided to set up a
permanent center for Tran
scendental Meditation (TM) in
Columbia.
To gain public attention and
understanding and enthuse
meditators, free films, lectures
and scientific research from
Harvard Medical School con
cerning TM will be presented
November 11-18, World Plan Week.
1972 was the 'Year of the World
Plan' and Maharishi Mehesh Yogi
spent time in the United States,
India Spain and Switzerland
working on a world plan for peace.
1973 is the year of Action, to ac
complish the world plan, 1974 the
year of Achievement and 1975 the
year of Fulfillment. The year of
fulfillment's goal is to get one
teacher of Science of Creative
Intellegence (SCI) for every 1,000
persons. SCI is a course of films,
lectures and tests given to
meditators as advanced learning.
World Plan Week will be used to
accelerate the action.
"We want to move with thrust
into achievement. Basically it is
for meditators. We want the
meditators enthused and have
them talk it up to friends. It is
always friends telling friends to
meditate," Vollmer explained.
The world plan is not just a week
of films and fun, there are goals
that must be achieved. These goals
are: to develop full potential,

ideal of education, eliminate the
age-old problem of crime and
behavior that brings unhappiness

maximize intelligent use of the
environment, to bring fulfillment
to the economic aspirations of

Vollmer and Krieger tell
prospective meditators that TM
will aid in bringing about world
peace. Vollmer said,"What we do
is, rather than approach world
peace at the top level, we break the
world down to the individual and
structure peace within every man
and woman."- Krieger adds "if
inner peace is gained, the product
of everyone's inner peace will be
radiated."
To date, there are about 200
"veteran" meditators in.Columbia
and 100 new initiates have begun in
the month since the two new
teachers have arrived,
The Department of Health,
Education and Welfare (HEW)
recognizes the Students In
ternational Meditation Society
(SIMS) as a non-profit
organization.
The scheduled events for World
Plan Week are: a dinner party for
meditators and friends on Sunday;
student night, with films, slides
and lectures, on Monday and an
open house, with films and lec
tures, Tuesday night.
