Michael N. Compton of
Springfield, Missouri, is the
newest faculty hnember on campus,
having been here since October 18.
"My professional practices were in
undergraduate work and the Greek
system so when this job opened up,
it was an ideal situation."
Compton completed his un
dergraduate work in sociology
and his masters in History at
Missouri State in Springfield. Last
year he attended the University of
Arkansas at Fayetteville where he
was working on his doctorate in
student personnel and ad

on Oct. 24 he intends to take
the trustees to court to enjoin
the spending and collection of
student activity fees for
political and charitable

Three formal complaints

the Student Activities. We are
hoping to set up some form of in

student will have interclassroom

myself more as an educator than
an administrator."
Compton has been interested in
the Greek programs at universities
and presently is trying to add some
different ideas to them.

the dark and hopefully they will

Compton believes a faculty
member is more than a person who
sets up schedules and sits behind a
desk. "We are not living up to our
potential as educators if everyone
thinks we are paper shuffler, "
he said. "We are doing an in

and they can not live up to their

Clarkson in a letter to the
administration and the SAC
via Robert E. Alexander, dean
for student activities. The
commission has notified
Clarkson that his complaints
are under advisement and
that the SAC is reevaluating
its guidelines in reference to
themselves, not to find out where
they are going, but what they are
going to.
"I am trying to get them to look
at the way they have been d9mig
things over the years so they
can plan for tomorrow and get out
of the old standard ways that a
fraternity, or sorority should be,"
he continued.
One of the major tasks for
Compton will be to establish a
center for informal education at
USC in conjunction with Dean
Robert Alexander, dean for
student activities, and other
faculty members.
