"They want to annihilate us,
not just beat us," Dietzel said.
"LSU has always been a fine
defensive team," said Dietzel,
"They always have people
who are very quick and do a
fine job of -getting to the
football. What is most im
pressive about them is their
enthusiasm and
aggressiveness."
The USC coaches. consider
LSU to be almost a flawless
team and think that the
Gamecocks must play error
free football if they are to
entertain hopes of upsetting
LSU.

Carolina's women volleyballers
were engaged in three matches
last week, winning two of the
matches to bring their record to 9-4
for the year.
The team is coached by Violet
Meade. "We just could not get it
together against Coker," com
mented Meade in reference to last
Friday night's loss to Coker at the
USC Physical Education Center,
15-9, 15-13.
This past Monday night the team

three-team tournament. The
Gamecocks emerged victorious
with 15-6, 15-5 wins over Erskine

Several teams remain un
defeated in intramural flag foot
ball with only two weeks remaining
before play-offs begin on Nov. 5.
Town Men continue to dominate
the Residence Hall League with a
perfect 7-0 record. Moore dor
mitory is right on their heels with a
6-0 record.
Alpha Tau Omega is dominating
the Independent League with a 6-1
slate. Among fraternities Phi
Kappa Sigma and Chi Psi rule the
two leagues. Chi Psi has a 7-0
record and Phi Kappa Sigma
stands 4-0.
Chi Psi will be defending their
intramural flag football
chamionship when the play-offs
begin in November.

three passes to give nim the team
lead in that category. Against
Colorado he intercepted a pass
early in the third quarter that
stoppede a Buffalo drive and
started LSU toward its first score.
Perhaps his most memorable
moment came last year when he
flagged down Florida speedster
Nat Moore from behind on the LSU
one-yard line which stopped an
apparent 80-yard touchdown pass.
On the following play Moore

years at LSV, leading the
Tigers to a national cham
pionship with an 11-0 mark in
1958. Dietzel won nearly twice
as many games as he lost at
LSU, before moving on to
Army and Carolina. At USC
Dietzel's coaching mark is
currently nine games under
the breakeven mark.
Ironically, Dietzel's first
game as USC coach was a 28-12
loss to LSU in 1966. That game
started Dietzel off to a Carolina
career in which he has never
seen more victories than
losses. Perhaps, Saturday
night's game can mark the
point at which Dietzel's USC
program wiill become a suc

Women's volleyball is a fast
growing sport around the country,
according to Meade. Several
colleges even give girls
scholarships to play. "Scholar
ships will becbme a reality when
coaches are-hired and not elec
ted," Meade said. "Dr. Jones has
said that by the end of this year we
will have a base for solid support of
intercollegiate women athletics."
Meade thinks that women
athletics at Carolina is not
receiving enough support. This
year's team was granted a $2000
for operating cosgs. All matches
are free so revenue is financed
through the athletic revenues.
