Carolina committed six
turnovers to allow Miami of
Ohio to beat the Gamecocks
for the second straight season
13-11 Saturday night at
Williams-Brice Stadium.
Miami held USC to 169 total
offensive yards and nine first
downs. Five of the
Gamecocks turnovers oc
curred in the second half.
In addition, in the third
quarter, when Miami opened
up a 13-3 lead, the Gamecocks
fumbled three times and were
intercepted once. -
It was not until the fourth
quarter that USC was able to
put together a sustained
offensive drive. Trailing 13-3,
they drive from their own 24
early in the fourth quarter to
deep in Miami territory.
However, the drive ended
when quarterback Jeff
Grantz' first down pass from
the Miami 21 was intercepted

difficulty was caused by two
people--Miami defensive
middle guard Brad Cousino
and defensive back Rebsch.
Rebsch intercepted three
Grantz' passes. Cousino
stopped USC's running game
and also put pressure on
Grantz when he tried to pass.
Cousino also blocked a
Robby Reynolds punt in the
second quarter.
"Cousino is a tremendous
football player." Grantz said
after the game. "He's the
best middle guard we've
faced this year. He has
outstanding quickness."
