"In the past Russell House was
supposed to be the center of
campus activity and en
tertainment and so far this has
been a real good year," said Frank
Siano, vice president for coor
dinations of the University Union.
Siano and co-vice president,
Allen Rosenblum, outlined the
major events sponsored by the
union this semester.
Siano said the University Unior
had organized their program ol
events this summer and that it wa,
a "pretty well balanced schedule.'
"The big thing this year is the
Golden Spur," said Siano, 'we have
a limit of 250 people but it can hold
sometimes more."

that neither group could be
scheduled this semester due to
previous committments.
He said it was difficult to secure
"big names" groups because of the
expenses involved and that many
USC students didn't understand the
situation.
"We have a problem in the
:oncert field", said Siano, "South
Carolina has a law which requires
a seat tax that guarantees them 10
per cent of .he house, plus we have
to rent the Coliseum which cost
anywhere from $250 to $2,500, and
big bands usually cost $2,500 due to
lighting and sound equipment.
"Then we have to pay the per
former," he said, "and that cost
anywhere from $15,000 and up plus
publicity which runs between
$3,000 and $5,000. So it cost about
$20,000 or up to put on a concert and
we've had some big losses in the
past."
Siano said they lost money on the
Beach Boys last year which were a
big success at other campuses.
"We are trying to find out what
the students want and we have a
marketing major doing some
research to find out," he said.
The Ze'eva Cohen Dance, will
present a seminar and lecture
demonstaation Oct. 10 and 12 and
the main performance will be a
Township Auditorium Oct. 11.
The Broadway Production, Two
Gentlemen from Verona, a musical
comedy "which is a farce on
today's politics" will be presented
Oct. 24 at Township Auditorium.
"It was a huge success and
received a Tony award for best
musical," said Siano, "it's been
playing on Broadway for the last
two years."
The cultural series will present
Richard Harris on Nov. 8 who will
give a poetry reading and also give
a Dreview of his new book , High
in Membership of My Days, and
Robert Penn Warren will also
appear at USC sometime in Oc
tober.
Siano said the films committee
had a wide variety of films this
semester and a continuing series of
Flash Gordon before each movie.
Some of the featured films are
Taming of the Shrew, the Wild
Bunch, Frenzy, Women in Love,
The Other and Satricicon.

The golden'spur has a license to
sell beer now and Rosen blum said,
"we've been turning people away
for it being too crowded."
"All the money spent in the Spur
that makes, a profit is put back
in,"said Rosenblum, "and draft
beer is only 35 cents."
Creek, a local rock-n-roll band,
will perform in the Golden Spur
Oct. 19-21.
Joe Walsh, formerly of the
James Gang, and his band Barn
storm will appear in the Carolina
Coliseum Oct. 10.
Siano said the concert committee

"big name" groups for the
Coliseum and had hoped to get
Seals and Croft and Elton John, but
