against them. "They all
moved the ball well,"
Fulcher said. However, only
Duke, 20-14, ran it well
enough to beat the Yellow
Jackets. Navy scored seven
points;. Michigan State 16.
Dietzel also said USC's
defense will be tested by the
Yellow Jacket offense.
"Georgia Tech has two
super receivers, a fine passer
and a good running game,"
Dietzel said. "We have a lot
of inexperienced people
on defense and it will be
interesting to see how they
fare.
" Our secondary is going to
be tested as thoroughly as
any can be tested in an
opening game," Dietzel said.
The Gamecocks will have
Henry Laws and Mel Baxley
at the cornerbacks, Thad
Rowe . at rover and
C.A.Wilson At safety. Baxley
and Wilson were starters last
year; Laws is a sophomore

and Rowe a senior who
played only occasionally the
past two years.
Tech will probably pass
often. Jim Stevetis, who was
the M VP in Georgia
Tech's . Liberty Bowl win
last December, is the Tech
quarterback.
Forced to play in the bowl
game when regular quar
terback Eddie McAshan was
suspended from the team,
Stevens completed 13 of 15
passes for three touchdowns
to help beat Iowa State 31-30.
Stevens was 18 for 32 passing
during the regular season.
Tech's best receiver is
split end Jimmy Robinson,
who is 5-9/2, 163. Robinson
caught 48 passes last year to
rank 21st nationally in
receptions.
Tailback Greg Horne is the
Yellow Jacket's top running
back. Last season he gained
558 yards and scored four
touchdowns. Bruce
Southall, the fullback, had a
6.2 average last year for 394
yards.
Tech is basically an ex
perienced team. They have
seven defensive and five
offensive starters returning.
However, they lack ex
perience on the offensive line
where only two starters
--quards Don Rohinson
and John Sargent-- return.
Carolina also has ex
perienced personnel,
especially on the offensive
line. Last year Dietzel
considered the line the
demise of the team. This
year he considers it a
strength.
