"Based on information from documented complaints and dis satisfactions, we notified the John Roberts Company that we are ter minating the contract," Fitzgerald said. "They sent wrong orders and wrong rings, and there was much verbal dissatisfaction." Rita McKinney, student body president, said she had heard many complaints about the company. "They would send rings that would fall apart and then not fix or re place them. A lot of people got the wrong school ring. One year they didn't even show up on ring day. Their service was generally poor." Jay Smith, also in Student Gov ernment, said the Roberts' repre sentative left about 3:30 Tuesday (the last ring day) because his business was so poor. "That com pany just doesn't have a good selec tion," he said. Fitzgerald and McKinney both speculated that Josten's would be asked to replace Roberts. "We have had no complaints from the stu dents who buy their rings from the Balfour Company, who also sells USC class rings, but we just think the students will have a larger choice if two ring companies are here ," Fitzgerald said. "We're not breaking the con tract with Roberts," McKinney said , "they just didn't fulfill their part of the deal."
