The three victories extended the Carolina win-streak to six straight (eight of their last nine) for a season record of 21-12. The most dramatic of the three wins was Thursday night's 5-4 16-inning victory over High Point. After the visiting Purple Panthers had come up with the to-ahead run in the top of the 16th, USC put on a two-out rally which was climaxed by Drew Choate's two-run single to end the marathon. All appeared lost for the Gamecocks when High Point was only a lone out from victory, but Eddie Ford and Hank Small singled, and Robby Rogers was struck by a pitch to load the bases and set the stage for Choate, barely hitting over .200. The outlook became even more dismal when Choate swung on and missed the first two pitches and the Purple Panthers were just a strike away from a one-run win. But Choate looped a single into right-field which barely eluded a diving attempt by the rightfielder, to chase home the winn ing runs.
