FUNDING,
"The commission wishes to
express its disapproval of this pol
icy of no athletic department
assistance for those teams which
are clearly operating on an inter
collegiate level but happen to be
composed of women or competing
in sports not presently endorsed by
the athletic department," the letter
said.
Professor James Myers of the
international studies department
introduced the motion that would
put athletic department funds
under the jurisdiction of the SAC.
That and the alternate motion of
taking a fixed sum out of the athletic
department budget for the clubs
came at the Friday April 13 meeting
of the committee.

Scott Derks, SAC chairman, said
"The athletic department should
take full responsibility for funding
these teams. Personally I think the
board of Trustees will have to
straighten out the roles this
summer."
Both Putnam and the Meyers
agreed the conflict may have to be
considered by the board.
What this means for now, how
ever, is that the sports clubs
affected will not receive any SAC
funds for their inter collegiate com
petition where their opponents are
funded by an athletic department.
