Among guest panelists and speakers at the conference were CBS News Vice President William Small, editorial cartoonist Clifford Baldowski of The Atlanta Constitu tion and Joe Western of the National Observer. Tom Price, Gamecock photo editor, was among 29 student jour nalists from nine schools winning SDX Mark of Excellence awards. Price won third place in the region's feature photography competition for his front-page photograph, shown at left, of a football player. Students at the Universities of Tennessee and Florida won seven and six awards respectively in the competition. The best all-round student news paper was judged to be The Oracle of the University of South Florida.
