"However this does not mean
that we should bow to every
wish and command of those out

rights and this government
exists to protect those rights."

McKinney said her involve
ment with student government
rests with a statement she
heard in high school: One of the
leaders in her school said "if
you don't like the way things
are, you have no right to com

effect change." McKinney said
if one wants to see improve
ment,- one must become
involved.
Change is a product of
responsibility, she, said. "For
every right and privilege
granted, we have first been put
to test or through a trail period,
after which time our responsi
bility as students has been re
evaluated.
"I feel it is time that this uni
versity and the entire state of
South.Carolina realize that we
have been tested and we have
proven ourselves to be a respon
sible student body," McKinney
said.
One of the major planks of
McKinney's platform is the
implementation of the Univer

"Hopefully, Carolina stu

that without a university senate
we will never be guaranteed an

process. From this point we will
begin our campaign for a uni

McKinney said.
McKinney advocated better
communication with the stu

for the students. She said SGA
must let the students know what
is being done.
"But prior to merely inform

initially ask what does the stu
