students were tired of voting and
that the turnout would be very low.
McKinney said, however, "I
definitely think it was a fair elec
tion. The Elections Commission
handled the polling places very
well. Tony Daniels did an excellent
job, particularly considering the
time problem they were under from
Wednesday to Friday deadline and
they were limited by funds and lack
of workers.
"I'm glad the whole election thing
is finally over. Of course, I'm very
excited about winning and I'm
ready to get to work. I wish it hadn't
taken this long for the election to
be cleared up. I feel like we've got
a little bit of catching up to do.
However, I feel that students should
have the right to petition.. and the

"I think the students did not con
sider the sex issue much at all. I
tried to play it down, even to the
point of not putting my picture on
anything. The students take into
account other things-qualifica

hope they did."
Instituting University Gover

increased communication between
the student government and student
body are the long-range goals of her
adminstration.
Choosing her cabinet members is
McKinney's immediate goal as
president.
McKinney hopes board of trustee

University goverance and trying
to improve relations with Board
members should increase student
concern about student government,
according to McKinney. "The pre
vailing sentiment among students is
'why care about student govern
ment'."
"Past student leaders have not
told students what they are doing.
We want to put into effect an
Dmbundsmen system."
The ombundsmen would answer
students' questions, take com
plaints, and channel this person to
the appropiate source if he could not
help himself.
McKinney becomes the first
woman president of the USC stu
dent body.
Vice presidential canidates Leigh
Leventis and Larry Stroud were
unavialable for comment on the
election situation.
