TO THE EDITOR:
There are 165 courageous
people at the.Dow. Chemical
plant in Bay City which has
been on strike for 14 months.
They would like to enlist the
aid of your newspaper and
members of the student body so
that we may survive. Dow
Chemical is using its unlimited
resources in an attempt to
destroy us economically and
eliminate the collective bar
gaining process of our Local
C Union which is 14055 of the
United Steelworkers.
Many workers and their
families have suffered
unlimited hardships in the loss
of income and personal prop
erty which they have had to sell
in order to feed their families
because Dow Chemical refuses
to resolve an unjust labor dis
pute provoked by Dow Chemi
cal and its local management.
In the interest of humanity we
ask that you print this letter in
your college paper and that the
student body aid us by refusing
to buy Handi-wrap plastic food
C wrap and Ziploc bags which'are
made at the Bay City plant.
If there are individuals or
groups on campus who would
like to aid us in this humane
endeavor, please contact me at
the address which is given
below. We request that they
boycott the above mentioned
products which are produced
by Dow Chemical in Bay City
and by any other aid or
activities which may aid our
cause.
Please print this letter in your
student newspaper and if possi
ble send me a copy.

TO THE EDITOR:
We would like to place a for
maj complaint against all can
didates running in the Student
Government %.actions WHO
have distributed paper flyers
heralding their so-called out
standing characteristics,
abilities, and qualifications.
This paper trash is an infr
ingement on the right to privacy
because it is a pain in the ass
to bend over, pick it up, and
deposit it in the trash recepta
cle. Furthermore, the content
of the flyers (if one is so
assinine and naive to read them)
is an insult to the intelligence
of the average student because
after one has been a member of
this farcical student body for
more than one year, it becomes
self-evident that all candidates
are created equal liars. And
from these roots that are estab
lished in the college years
grows the apathy that is so
unfortunately apparent in
national politics today.
If the candidates must con
tinue this absurd process for
gaining votes; at least they
should use recycled paper to
insure the preservation of the
ecology.

TO THE EDITOR:
As regards sports editor
Steve Parker's questioning of
the selection of Wichita State
University's Henry Levitt
Arena for hosting the NCAA
Midwest (not Southwest) Reg
ional Quarterfinals, the answer
is apparent in his own article.
The "ancient" arena was built
in 1954 and has served as a
model for many later college
basketball facilities. Wichita
State began filling its 12,000
seat arena in the early '60's
prior to USC's even contemplat
ing a basketball stadium.
Wichita's interest in basketball
and central location has
resulted in its hosting several
NCA A Midwest Regional Quar
terfinals in the past.
Perhaps it is more the fault
of the selection committee of
the NCAA in designating USC
to play in a tournament 1,200
miles from Columbia against
another team (Texas Tech) who
holds no real interest to Wichita
or Kansas fans. As you might
recall, we Gamecocks have only
sporadically been ranked in the
top twenty this year. To turn
the tables, I ask Mr. Parker how
many Carolina fans would
purchase tickets to watch Ten
nessee play Wichita State in an
Eastern Regional Quarterfinal
held at the Carolina Coliseum?
As an alumnus and continuing
student at USC, I would hope
that the interest shown in the
Gamecocks in South Carolina
extended throughout the coun
try, but unfortunately such is
not the case. In vindicating
Wichita, It Is only fair to sur

Moines, Kansas City, St. Louis
or Oklahoma City with such a
game pairing. It might be noted
that in the Eastern Regional
tournament at Williamsburg
the attendance at the St. John's
versus Pennsylvania game was
3,052 according to the
Associated Press. Likewise, the
AP reported that in the West
Regional at Logan, Utah, both
games recorded 6,706 in
attendance. Now we come to a
dilemma. Do we congratulate
Wichita for its 6,389 fans or do
we condemn all the NCAA quar
terfinal site selections?

TO THE EDITOR:
Allow me to introduce myself,
my name is Lank and I am your
average, or at least I thought I
was, all American car. My slip
from sanity began when my
owner brought me to the
University of South Carolina.
The moment we hit the intersec
tion of Green and Sumter, I
knew my depreciation would
triple and could feel the oil
rumbling in my block.
After a couple of days of rest,
my owner sudenly materialized
with a funny blue sticker in his
hand that has a chicken on it.
I quickly found out, that this is
-not a self-preservation cer
tificate, but a $10.00 "hunting
license" to find one of the two
parking spaces on campus.
I heard a value stopping
rumor that there are five
thousand more stickers in town.
Maybe I can contract some exo
tic sickness like tireilitius so I
will not have to commit myself
to the Battle of Non-Existence
every morning.
As we have little to do while
our owners finally make their
last 10 minutes of class, we usu
ally sit around and talk about
what went on in the back seat
last night. The subject was
brought up one day about the
$10.00 our owners have to pay
for their "hunting license". I
told them that someone has to
pay those uniformed matrons
that ride around in their three
wheeled toys abusing our door
handles.
It was at this time that I met
Jacqueline Jeep. I found out the
poor girl had been abused five
times in the first three weeks
of school. She is damn sick and
tired of being man-handled and
wants something done about it.
Do you realize that one of her
so-called atrocious acts was
touching a tree's zone. What in
the hell is a tree's zone anyway.
I never heard that one in the
Facts of the Road. Maybe
Jacqueline Jeep and I can get
together one night and attack
these zones together. Would
you believe that just last Satur
day night Jacqueline was
ravished again. She was trying
to park at the Coliseum when
the parking attendant
demanded a dollar from her
before she could set a tire on
his precious asphalt. And just
last night when Jacqueline' s
owner tried to park at this col
iseum to attend classes, she was
told that $1.00 would be all it
took to park, as a basketball
game was in progress.
Jacqueline ended up being
incarcerated in the Gibbes'
Volkswagon lot for the night.
Jacqueline's owner had to walk
home that night and I wonder
if she had been raped, if the
school's administration would
have any more feelings toward
the problems at U.S.C.
Finally, I noticed that the
sticker which clings to my rear
end says that something or
someone is going to expire on
September 1, 1973. Let's hope
for my sake and all my friends
that it is this idiotic packing
