Project Success will sponsor
a three-day rally at the Central
Correctional Institute in Colum
bia. The interesting thing about
the rally is that it will be the
first student rally ever to be
held in a prison. The rally
oegins March 30 and will fea
ture rock music, art, a boxing
demonstration, parachuting
and speeches from various
state officials.
Reid Montgomery Jr., direc
tor of Success, came up with the
J. L. Harvey, department v
administrative assistant to tl

idea for the project while work
ing with the Manning Correc
tional Institute. He saw a
genuine concern among the
inmates for better education.
The main objective of the pro
ject is to raise money for a
scholarship fund, so that any
inmate who qualifies may
further their education. The
scholarships will be awarded
with reguard to need and desire.
Funds will cover housing, trans
portation, book and tuition.
It is the hope of the Success
Board that this type project will

All students are encouraged
to attend the rally. No admis
sion will be charged. Montgom
ery said that other colleges in
the state are participating in the
drive, but the USC turnout
should be the largest. The
expected attendance is 3,000.
A Campus Success committee
has been working on a fund
drive for Success along with
several other organizations. So
far, $1-,000 has been raised.
