"When elected I will work for:
"Legal rights-Too many times
students are treated as second class
citizens subject to illegal room
searches under the guise of dorm
inspection, subject to rules degrad
ing and unbecoming to first class
citizens which we are.
"Book exchange-An alternative is
needed to high book prices and a
book exchange, properly run, can
provide this alternative."
DANNY
SBURNS
Danny Burns, a veteran, is an
experienced student government
worker, a former member of the
Student Senate and the University
Union.
Burns would like to channel his
work toward solving the problems
of exam scheduling (one per day)
and parking.

CHRIS
CANNON
Chris Cannon is a sophomore
political science major who, last
year, was a member of both the
Towers Government and the
Freshman Coordinating Commit
tee.
Cannon advocates a new
approach to the student parking
problem. Among other serious
problems facing our University,
Cannon is concerned with the hous
ing situation and the universities
drug policies. Cannon also wants to
see more activities for students in
the Columbia area and he' believes
that the university should aid in pro
viding these functions.

"The problem of a relevant stu
dent government has gone on
unresolved on this campus for
years. Before the government can
solve student problems, however,
they must be clearly defined.
"Accordingly, as a candidate for
President of the Student Govern
ment, I am conducting a poll of
every student on this campus to find
out exactly what the problems are.
"Your SGA receives over $45,000
in funds per year-money taken
from the student activities fee each
of you pay every semester. I want
to be sure that you get your money's
worth, and can do this if you will
give me your opinion.

"The Board of Trustees is the sole
source of power at USC. This Board
has operated without adequate stu
dent representation for too long.
"Isn't it about time we were given
the opportunity to determine how
we live? Because of the Board's
dominance, creative student
leadership has been suppressed.
Determinations, such as visitation
rights, discriminatory parking
privileges for faculty and staff, the
price of education and the Univer
sity drug policy have been made
without adequate student represen
tation.
"We tired of having our ideas
buried in thousands of committees
that exist on this campus."
HARRY
HOPE
Harry Hope announced his candi
dacy for the presidency of the USC
student body today at a wild drink
ing session in the Campus Club
South.
"This will be a low key cam
paign," Hope said in his plush
offices overlooking the Blue Ridge
Mountains and Atlantic Ocean.
"After all, if a low-key campaign
can put a loser in the White House,
it ought to work for me."
Hope said that the Student
Natural Function Party (SNAFU)
would name candidates for secret
ary and treasurer as well as various
Senate seats around campus.

MCKINNEY
.1'
Rita McKinney is running on the
platform of University Governance
and concerted improvements in
camDus communication.
McKinney said, "Anybody who
has worked under the present Sen
ate system knows how easy it is to
have things overlooked. Under
University Governance, the Stu
dent Senate and the faculty senate
would be combined, solving the pre
sent communication and bureauc
race problems. Research has been
done on this system, which is quite
successful in Northern schools, and
hopefully it could be put into effect
by the end of next year."
DAVID
ROSENBLUM
Although I have little concern for
resumes in general, and mine in
particular, I do feel strongly about
my role as a responsible student.
"The fundamental problem which
demands our response, is establish
ing active student involvement in
the planning and direction of this
university. If we begin by establish
ing student imput in this area, there
will be less and less a need for our
sluggish reactions to the unfor
tunate effects of one-sided planning
by the administration. Realistically,
this will require the efforts of
several student administrations,'
but the time to begin is now. People
support what they create."

"Student government needs a real
shakeup in leadership. Someone
outside student government needs
to come in and give it a new direc
tion." Wright said. "In working with
the cheerleaders, I have found that
more can be accomplished for stu
dents by working with, rather than
against the administration. It is
obvious that the present trend of
SGA is fruitless and realistic
negotiation would produce more
position results for the student's
interest."
Wright, head cheerleader for the
past two years, said that under his
leadership, the USC cheerleading
squad has been ranked first in the
nation this year.
Vice President
BOB
CRAFT
Bob Craft is again running. Not
from disgruntled readers but for
the Vice presidency of the Student
Body. Craft, last year, ran for the
Presidency on the Student Natural
Function (SNAFU) party ticket.
Craft is co-founder of the party and
chairman of the refreshment com
mittee. Craft is again on the ticket
because he hates seeing Harry
Hope cry.
"At first I didn't want to run, but
when Harry told me that he knew
I still had relatives living in Ocon
nee County, I knew the game was
up. Well, anyway, SGA elections
appeal to the latent David Cassidy
in me."
