Letters t
To The Editor:
To the thief who stole my
umbrella from Physical Science
Center-It is really beyond my
comprehension that a person
with an education up to a
University level, can drop to the
level of an illiterate, a beast,
such as one who would without
hesitance or guilt, pick up some
thing that does not belong to
her.
Due to an emergency errand,
I had not been able to carry all
my books and belongings with
me, and I happened to be at the
ladies' restroom on first floor
at PSC on Thursday Feb. 15,
so I decided to leave my things
(my books and my umbrella)
unobstrusively on the shelf for
just a few minutes. Little would
I know that it would be the last
time for me to see my umbrella.
The thief went into the
restroom between 12:30 p.m.
and 1 p.m. When I came back,
my books were still there (for
tunately! of course, because
what would an illiterate brat do
with books - but my umbrella
was gone. Now why such a fuss
about an umbrella? Yes, I may
be very naive about the mat
ter, but I cannot help being
angry over the theft and upset
over my loss as well. The act
just shows how degradable the
person can be, to stoop to be a
thief....it wasn't raining any

way. Yes, she may need it when
it rains, and since she has no
sense of guilt or conscience, it
will not bother her the least to
be seen carrying (using) some
thing she stole. That umbrella
came to me from the other side
of the world...it was a gift from
someone dear to me - someone
I had not seen for four years.
The umbrella telescopes to only
about six inches when closed,
therefore it was certainly very
convenient and easy for the
thief to just lift it off the shelf
and stick it into her pocketbook
(which she probably carries
around for that single purpose.)
Even if I have the money to
replace such an umbrella again,
(believe it or not, it costs
$12.50), I will never be able to
buy such a kind again, for I
have never seen it in this part
of the country yet.
You, whoever you are, can be
sure that I shall watch out for
my umbrella (if you care to use
it) around campus. The campus
is large I know, and there are
thousands of umbrellas and stu
dents around. I do not live in the
hope of finding my lost
umbrella (or any lost property
for that matter), because it is
impossible. However,
remember, impossibilities have
had the "im-" removed before.
