This new column in the Gamecock Sports Section can.
add a new dimension to each and everyone's life...especially
college life. The abbreviated column stands for the Mutual
Advancement of the A.ssociation between the A.thletes and
tne College P.eople. In this column we hope to bring out
the "human" side of the Carolina athlete. "Human" being
illustrated by the rumor that the anthropology classes are
always going to the Roose for "Neanderthal Man" studies
during their field trips. We want to accomplish a personal
"side view" of the athletes in order to make a more unified
school system and a happier college life for everyone. The
old saying... "United we stand; divided we fall!"...can apply
to this situation.
The rumors about the Carolina athletes (like the one illus
trated above) will be dealt with through a mail cor
respondence. The rumors are really humorous sometimes,
but they can get to be pretty serious and things get way
out of scope. The descriptions of the Roost dorm are pretty
funny, for example...we all sleep in eight-foot king size beds
'(Russ Jackson would get lost in something like that...be
too little for Danny Traylor, though!)...we've got'maids to
clean up our rooms and make our beds (our "super" cleaning
ladies just clean our floors and keep us in good humor,
great people!)...the rumors go on and on. This column
will be designated to answering these type of rumors and
any questions about any of the athletes for the benefit of
the people involved.
The first question -I'd like you readers to answer is what
you think of the Carolina athletes. "What do you personally
like or dislike about us?" I'm sure there will be more "dis
likes", but this is what we want to work with. We want
to feel more a part of the school functions and we want
you to feel more a part of our athletic program. The only
way to accomplish this is to get on truthful grounds on both
sides.
Let me answer some questions that are going through
your mind right now.
1. Why are you writing this column? I am writing this
column because I have my own column in Indiana and I'm
concerned about the student-athlete relationship. The col
umn will appear once every two weeks.
2. What do you plan to accomplish by this column? Number
one; M.A.A.A.C.P., exactly what the title stands for,...two,
an inside look at the human side of Carolina athletes and
their activities,...three, a personal channel (by mail) to the
athletes about their lives as "people." (This mail will be
up to the individual athlete as to whether or not he could
or would like to answer all of it)...and four, a listing of
times and places of "M.A.A.A.C.P. Raps" (this will be when
a group of.athletes and coaches will personally have ques
tion and answer sessions with the students at the dorms).
This was done last fall at the Towers lounge and was quite
successful. ..we'd like to do it for all dorms. If so, just write
to this column and we will arrange the dates. It will be
rewarding for both parties.

Ingeisby
From Page 13.
That is no fault of Ingelsby. He
has been the leading Wildcat scorer
in every single game this season,
scoring less than 20 points only
twice and on eight occassions he has
passed the 30 mark, including his
last five straight games.
"I took more shots today than I
average," said Ingelsby. "If I have'
the shot I like to take it, but I don't
like to have to force any. But some
times you don't have any choice."
With the way Inglesby stood out 1 %
over his relatively dismal team
mates, it appeared as if Villanova
Coach Jack Kraft might be wise to
switch to a Pete Maravich-IBUJ
type offense for the remainder of
his contests. Its hard to conceive of
any one player winning games by
himself, but it doesn't appear as if'
Inglesby's teammates do much in
the way of adding to the Wildcat
attack.
