Coastal students will be able to take junior level courses until they meet the enrollment requirements of 1,000 students for four year accredidation. Harold Brunton, vice presi dent for business affairs and speaking for the buildings com mitted reported a budget increase for the six-story school of nursing at the corner of Green and Pickens streets had been obtained because of a federal grant increase from the National Institute of Health. Also there was a budget increase for the planned Biolog ical Sciences building which will be south of the Coker Life Sciences Center on Main Street. The structure will have 97,000 sq. ft. of classrooms, laboratories and auditoriums. Other projects to get budget increases are the Russell House addition, the Physical Educa tion addition and the Blossom Street garage addition. Non -dis A non-discrimination policy for the university was approved Monday by the USC Board of Trustees. President Thomas F. Jones presented the policy, which states, "The Board of Trustees and the Administrative officers of the University of South Carolina are committed to a pol icy of non-discrimination regardless of sex, race, creed, color or national origin. They declare that all University appointments will be made sol ely on the basis of those qualifi cations appropriate to the posi tion to be filled." Brunton said the unit to be destroyed housed two frater nities, one of which had been locked and not in use for several months. The other fraternity agreed to be relocated. Then the board voiced approval of an "Affirmative Action Policy". President Thomas F. Jones read the state criminat Jones announced the appoint ment of Mrs. Anna Durham as the "affirmative action officer" who will execute the new policy. He said Mrs. Durham's job is to work to pre vent discrimination at the University and to "seek out any existing cases of discrimina tion." Mrs. Durham has worked at USC 30 years in purchasing and personnel, respectively, "So I think the University hasn't dis criminated against women too much," she said.
