Chi Psi was the Fraternity division winners and the Town Men were the first-place finishers in the inde pendent division, as well as defending champs. The Town Men drew first blood on a 40-yard pass from quarterback Brian Mahelsky to David Hines. The conversion failed and Town Men led 6-0. Then Chi Psi went to work behind the excellent signal calling of Mike Norton. Before the first half ended, Norton had thrown touchdown passes to Jerry Harwell, Romie Askins, and Sidney Carter. Norton's performance gave the Frater nity champs a 20-6 halftime lead. Town Men opened the scoring in the second half with an Anthony Evans TD run. For the remainder of the game, the Chi Psi defense prevailed. Tim McGuire, Jim Andrews, and Ab Peery were outstanding in keeping the Town Men in check. As the final minutes of the season were ticking away Chi Psi defensive back Tommy Spratt intercepted a pass and returned it for six points. The game ended with Chi Psi on top 27-12.
