Rugge UGa., BY MARK LEARY Sports Writer The Carolina Ruggers defeated highly touted Georgia, 24-4, to end their winter season with a record of 8-1. This overwelming victory makes Rugby club officials optimis tic about the upcoming spring sea son. The game started out slowly in the rain soaked field. Georgia constan tly kicked into position and this tac tic seemed to work in the muddy field as they scored the first points of the game. A last minute pass from a Georgia rugger originally from New Zealand to another man gave Georgia a 4-0 lead. Late in the first half, instead of going for a three point play Carolina chanced it and went for the score. The gamble worked as Warren Muir, Burke Hayes, and Dr. Jim Wynn put on a great passing exhibi tion and Wynn ended the play as he dove over the goal line for the score. The two point convertion was missed and at the half it was 4-4. With five minutes gone in the sec ond half Burke Hayes took off for the aoal line. Just as he crossed the Sports The University of South Carolina Soccer Club, having completed its regular season, plans to begin a winter-spring season and has a unique offer to the public. The club plans to develop two teams; one made up of University players and another made up of faculty members, graduate stu dents, and residents of Columbia who have an interest in soccer. Since one of the objectives of the club is to promote an interest in this sport, Cqlumbians are encouraged to join the club. Games will be played against amateur teams in South Carolina and Georgia. The first practice will S be on Sunday, December 3rd, at 2:00 s o'clock on USC Intramural Field A, on the corner of Wheat and Sumter - Street. The practice will be preceeded by a 30 minute soccer clinic that will be of value to coaches, players, and spectators. The clinic will begin a 1:30 and will be conducted by Yank Albers, a noted soccer coach. The score at this point was 18-4. Beall added the icing on the cake after the Walton score when he blocked a Georgia punt picked up the ball and ran half the field for the score. Walton ended the scoring in the game when he converted two points. Walton said of the game and the next season, "They (Georgia) had the upper hand in the series before today but we evened it up." He added, "We're all looking forward to next season and expecially April when the Narional Collegiate Rugby Tournament is held in Lexington Virginia in brief The USC bowling team scored an overwhelming 58-32 victory over Clemson, last Saturday. The team, which consists of the top bowlers in the USC Bowling Club's Intra'Carolina League was paced by sophomore Bob McLeans five game set of 1005, with a high game of 258. The Tiger team led after the ini tial three games of the series, but McLean's and Leigh Leventis fine performance in the final two games preserved the win for Carolina. Also participating for USC were Bob Allen, Dwight Aderholt, Jeff Bellinger and Shris Taylor. It was USC's first victory against no Southern Bowling Intercollegiate losses.
