Ruggers to

BY MARK LEARY
Sports Writer
"Beautiful, just beautiful" is how
player coach Dr. Jim Wynn
described the Carolina rugby club's
play against Clemson, as the
Gamecocks destroyed the Tigers
41-0.
This win put the team at 7-0 on
the season and extended their winn
ing streak at home to 19 games.
Dr. Frank Walton started the
scoring with a minute gone in the
game, as he booted a penalty kick
to make the score 3-0. A few minutes
later Walton dove across for
another score.
Burke Hayes closed out the scor
ing in the half, scoring twice. First,
he scampered 35 yards and the sec
ond came after an excellent pass
allowing him to score easily. Both
conversions were good by Walton,
making the score at the half 19-0
Carolina.

Hayes picked up where he left off,
as he started the scoring in the sec
Dnd half, breaking away and runn
ing 80 yards for the score.
High scorer for the game Frank
Walton (with 17) scored next pick
ing the ball up from Wynn and
touched the ball down in the end
zone.
Wynn scored the next two
touches, both coming on excellent
passing plays. The second play was
easily the superior, as it brought the
crowd of 300 to its feet. Nick
Canizares lateralled to Hayes who
lateralled to Wynn, who went across
the goal line untouched.
Warren Muir went across for the
.ast score of the game as he
received an excellent toss from
layes.
Next week Carolina goes back on
he road and playes N. C. State at
3tate.
