The Association of Afro-American Stu

Oct. 29-Nov. 5, with the theme "Does any
body know our names?"
"The purpose of Black Week is to promote
awareness and emphasize black culture,"
according to Atlee Prince, association
president. "We're trying to intermingle our
African culture and the culture that has
developed since black people came to
America. The two combined have become
a unique entity."
"I can foresee the time when there won't
be a need for Black Week," he said. "At
present it is imperative that we have special
times allotted to the recognition of black
culture because the culture of the black
race has been played down in history."
The week opened with an observance of
Parents' Day. "We started the Parents' Day

want to give them an idea of what Carolina
