"For my next trick ..."
A tunnel connecting the campus and the Coliseum was
begun Monday according to Harold Brunton, vice president
of business affairs.
Due to the high volume of traffic on Assembly St., there
was concern about pedestrian safety during class time and
at special events.
When the Coliseum was built, both an overpass and tunnel
were considered and a knock-out wall was built on the con
course level at the Coliseum to facilitate future construc
tion.
Techinical problems involved in an overpass resulted in
this plan being rejected. A tunnel to pass under Assembly
and connect the concourse level at the Coliseum with the
rear of the new law school became the plan.
"We hope that this will be completed in several months,"
Brunton said, "the problem is that traffic must be main
tained while construction is going on."
