BY BOB CRAFT
So.
Friday is the University
Union's first concert of the year.
Kris Kristofferson and Rita
Coolidge will be in the Carolina
Coliseum. At this eleventh hour,
you probably know which way
you're going to decide about at
tending, but in case you haven't
here's some stuff about Rita
Coolidge.
Rita Coolidge, like Aretha
Franklin, is the daughter of a
preacher and she learned to sing
by doing various choir lofts since
she was knee high as she and her
family moved around the country.
The family alighted in Florida
when she was fifteen and she
stayed there long enough to put in
time at Florida State before she
headed for Memphis to sing radio
spots and jingles, signed with a
company and cut a fairly suc
cessful record.

example. She had a solo spot in the
"Mad Dogs and Englishmen" tour
which included such people as
Leon Russell, Jim Gordon and Carl
Radle.
She cut her first album with
some of the musicians repaying all
the work she had done for them.
Several tours criss-crossing
America with the Dixie Flyers of
Muscle Shoals-to Europe with
The Byrds and then her new
album, "Nice Feelin' ".
Instead of another supersession,
Rita used Mark Benno and the
Dixie Flyers and songs by Neil
Young, Dylan, Graham Nash and
henno. Her version of Young's "I
Believe in You" was a giant seller
in Canada.
"The Delta Lady" will be here
with her "Good ole country boy"
tomorrow night.
