Sixty per cent of the traffic on Green Street Is
University orientated according an origin
destination survey recently compiled.
The survey, which was taken I st November
involved 2009 cars and seems to indicate that
"if students wanted Green Str et closed, it
could be done, because the majority of the
traffic is University related," according to Jay
Smith, head of Student Government's traffic
committee.
More signifigant, only 13.5 per cent of the
drivers felt that they could not reach their
destination by an alternate route. When asked
"Can you reech your destination by an alter
nate route?" 1738 drivers or 86.5 per cent an
swered yes they could.
Smith said, "This survey has demonstrated
clearly that the closing of Green Street would
more greatly affect USC traffic than other
groups using the street."
The survey was originally made by the Green
Street Traffic Committee and was supposed to
be released over five months ago, but lack of
personnel and wavering interest have caused
numerous delays.

16.3 per cent (348) were involved in unessential,

The study showed that from 11 a.m. through 1
p.m. a large amount of the non-USC traffic (9.4
per cent) was riding through the campus as a
recreation.
