ut we intend to make our brand of entertainment
va'lable to all those who care to view it ---- either from
enuine interest or from curiosity. And we want it to be a
vorthwhile, pleasurable pass-time."
Baker also indicated that there may be more than auto
acing in the future at Columbia Speedway.
"One thing I've never understood about the
nanagement of race tracks," he said, "is that they aren't
tilized to their full potential. The big, superspeedways
perate only two times annually, and short tracks like ours
pen only one night weekly for about eight months of the
ear.
"Personally, I consider that a terrible waste of
acilities," Baker stated. "We've got adequate lighting,
eating and parking facilities that are used strictly for
acing. Now, what would be so wrong with using them for
allies, other sporting events, or maybe even a rock
oncert ?"
A generation gap? Hardly. For a 53-year-old racing
randfather, Buck Baker appears to really have his head
ogether.
