Male's rebuttal to women's lib D9AR MS. MILLER: I must say, I was extremely amused by the number of responses to my March 22nd letter concerning male superiority. In the interest of clarifying my position for the benefit of those who cared enough to write, I feel obligated to offer this rebuttal. Since there were so many of you who responded, I cannot possibly answer each one of your attacks ,nor do I desire to do so since most of them were of such inferior calibre anyway. There were, however, several letters which I thought were worthy of comment. I Would like to thank Frederica Green for withholding her wrath (a difficult task, it seems, for a female) and for politely at tempting to inform me of so many ideas of which I am so obviously ignorant. Save it sweetheart, I've heard it all before. I was amazed at all of the attempts made to analyze me because of my views on a certain issue. Really, that's very un-American. There seem to be a lot of bitches running around here. PAUL RANSOHOFF 'Project Preston' sirs objections DEAR MS. MILLER During recent weeks there have been several rumors about a proposal to change Preston into a coed honor dorm. "Project Preston: A proposal for improving the academic atmosphere in Carolina Residences" by the ad hoc Committee on Project Preston, a memo that attempts to explain (or defend, according to which side one takes) the reationale behind this experiment says simply that "we have selected Preston College . . for this project." Numerous other references to this mysterious "'we"t are evident in this memo. Not until the third page does one find these unsigned, anonymous persons "Propose" something rather than pronounce their unilateral decision. As a poor, uninformed (and probably "homeless" by next semester) "Prestonite," 1 would like to know: 1. Who are the "we" who have made this apparently unilateral decision? 2. Were any of these "we" residents of Preston or representatives of Preston's dorm government? 3. Why were the students of Preston not polled to see how they felt about being thrown out (evicted if you prefer or "moved" if you -wish to be nauseatingly - euphemistic) of "their" dorm. 4. When will we, the residents of Preston, know what final action has been taken by the Board of Trustees, the administration, and the Housing Office? (I realize that students are "society's niggers" but really even a person as despicable and lowly as a student needs to make some plans about COURSE and II APRIL 12~ STUDENTS... TO PARTICIPA The Eva Regular Indeperi And Ind4 where he is going to live next semester.) 5. Has anyone polled the "honor students' to see what they think of the present proposal? What is an honor student? A 3.0? Come now, with standards what they are here, that would be a farce. I feel that there is little correlation between grades and whether a person is here to learn or only to get a diploma. I doubt that my small voice will stop or even impede in any way the "progress" embodied in "Project Preston." I support the idea of turning Preston into a coed dorm. I support the idea of phasing in honor students of all disciplines while phasing out the present residents of Preston. My objections are: 1. The manner in which the Project has been handled (complete lack of concern for students already residing in Preston who wish to return; apparent lack of in formation on what the student body as a whole desires; (lack of publicity). 2. Possible faulty reasoning. (The purpose of a university, as opposed to a college, is to give the student exposure to more diverse disciplines (this is the reason BA majors are required to take a large number of liberal arts, sciences and outside elective courses) yet Project Preston's apparent purpose is to homogenize rather than diversify ex periences.) 3. The possibility that Preston will be turned into a residence for the sole purpose of allowing socializing among special groups (i.e., an unofficial frat) I notice references to language majors, poetry, theatre, arts and crafts, and a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Is this dorm to be just for arts and sciences students in the Humanities? Again I say, come now! The general feeling among Engineering, BA and Pharmacy students is that Humanities is an easy ride. An honor dorm for Humanities? How about just a dorm for Humanities special in 4STRUCTOR EN THIS WEEK th through APRIl URGE YOUR PR TE!! dluation Will Inch Courses Except L dent Studies Cour pendent Research terest groups? JOHNCANADAY A message for Craft DEAR MS. MIJLER: A message for Bob Craft: cram it. DENNIS A. WALSH One more for Craft DEAR MS. MILLER: I get so damn tired of your editorial writers' attempts to imitate the style of the GAMECOCK, and ther effrts to degrade your rag ewm further than it is already. The sole purpose o&4Ms letter, though, is to single out Bob Craft for attack and to ca lim ames, as follows: (This is a brief spiel writt In an apoplectic fit, degrading the name of Bob Caft, all of the garbage that he has eer written, his sex life, his gea-gy:ch to seventeen generations, he way he performs bodily f mt, and his mentality.) I was wrong whe I said that was all I was going to write about. It seems that there are a few people on campus (letter-writers at least) that do not want uak athietes to play on their beloved tesm, and will fight like the devil to keep them.ff the team. Al I can say to them is that I am NOT leaving Carolina; you're not gettWg rid of us that easily. STANLEY M. HOULINIEAD 'ALUATION . 21st OFESSORS ide All ses (399) (498 or 499).
