BLOOD DRIVE
A blood drive will be held April
17 to 19 in the M & N Lounge.
Donations will be taken from 1
p.m. to 7 p.m. The University's
quota for the drive, sponsored by
the Volunteer Services Depart
ment, is 1500 units of blood. Ac
cording to John Elkins, Volunteer
Services director, this amount will
protect all University students and
their families.
SYMPOSIUM
A symposium on International
Relations and the Future of Ocean
Space is scheduled at USC today,
sponsored by the USC Institute of
International Studies.
The program, which features
four major guest participants, will
have four separate sessions, each
dealing with an aspect of ocean
problems -- policy, legal, economic
and ecological.
The symposium will take place
in the Keystone Room of Capstone
House at USC, and is designed
especially for faculty and graduate
students. Those interested in at
tending may contact Robert G.
Wirsing in the Department of
International Studies.
TIDELANDS HEARING
A hearing on the tidelands zoning
measure to be introduced in the
S.C. Legislature will be held at 3
p.m. Tuesday, April 18 in the
Senate Chamber.
This measure will zone the
tidelands marshes of South
Carolina either for industrial uses
or for preservation in their natural
state. The hearing is open to all
interested persons; those at
tending are not required to speak.
Attendance of interested
students will help in the passing of
strong tidelands protection
legislation.
CRUCIBLE AWARDS
THE CRUCIBLE LITERARY
MAGAZINE received five awards
from the South Carolina Collegiate
Press Association on Saturday,
April 8, at the Sheraton-Ft. Sumter
Hotel in Charleston, S.C. The
awards were presented to Elissa
Domroe, Editor-in-Chief by
Douglas Donehue of the Charleston
News and Courier.
A ED CONVENTION
Members of the USC chapter of
Alpha Epsilon Delta, the in
ternational premedical honor
society, will attend the
organization's national convention
this week in Charlottesville, Va.
Glenn Abernathy Jr., vice
president of the USC chapter, will
be the official delegate from USC.
Also among those attending will
be David Kidder, president of the
local chapter, and biology Prof.
Felix Lauter, the faculty adviser
for the USC group.
The USC chapter of Alpha Ep
silon Delta was installed in 1963
and is one of 100 chapters In the
United States and Canada.
