Students who seek the Bachelor of General Studies degree will have no required courses, and great freedom to design their own 120-hour program. Faculty supervision is an integral and important part of this. This is an excellent op. portunity for independent. thinking students who are tired of all the anti-academic crap around here to break loose and get an education instead a degree. One of the major advantageE of the new program is that ii will offer a truly relevanI education-as relevant anc braod as a student cares tc make it. Citizen Sanity Sanit3 By STAN SEARS Columnist l'or months, Sanity read how nih nation was becoming disengaget from a war that had broughl division in his country Every month brought more news of troop withdrawals and con cessions to the enemy. Sanity', people were constantly givini away land and supplies to the enemy. The wholesale sellout anc angered many of the Sane poeple The war had brought varioui complications to the national situation. Certain elderly ladief tried to turn it into a "Holy War' and vociferously urged thei, grandsons to mount their horses t< conquer the enemy for God. Un fortunately, their grandsons wer4 often urwilling to carry on thi fight. This brought shame to th4 elderly veterans, accustomed t4 having their way. At the other extreme were thos who' had been opppsed to the wa from the beginning, in previou times known as isolationists. Ther were other names for thes dastardly characters in th present. During the course of th war, these peace advocates ha become more and more popula, President Trix, fearless leader Sanity's people, had turned into super peace proponent. But, thl enemy had given him trouble. Every time that Trix propose troop pullouts, the enemy woul viciously attack his motives. The flooded the war zone more an more, so that the number of peopi engaged in the war did ni decrease. Now, the enemy gree out-numbered the Sane pople. Citizen Sanity and his friend the fine patriots that they wer< supported the war. Unfortunatel: President Trix was determined end the war at all costs, in order sis gram may He or she will not have to worry about the profusion of required courses such as foreign language, math, English that are often taken ONLY because they are I required. This will probably upset some people in some depart ments, for the only reason many courses around here are offered or taken is that they are required. Of course there won't be a great dearth of students going to General Studies Degree route just bacuase of that, and perhaps that is a real shame. There are a whole dearth of courses that aren't worth a damn. But more inportantly is the uniqueness of each student's curriculum that in itself tells a prospective employer or graduate school a great deal about that student. The particular curriculum will give some idea of the student's range of interests, ends the insure his election. No matter what the enemy did, Trix continued to pull the troops out. Time and again, the enemy would leave the peace talks, trying to attract at tention. They accused Trix of being unreasonable and carrying on the war. Little did they know Trix was pulling the troops out as quickly as possible. The enemy persisted in carrying on thewar. As a matter of fact, it could hardly be called a war. Without two sides fighting, you only have one side fighting, and it usually requires two sides to have a fight. Otherwise it is either a masochistic farce or a case of assault and battery. Sanity and his friends pleaded wit) the Fearless Leader to let them carry on the war right. Trix refused. Con stantly, the enemy overran defenseless positions filled with unarmed men. Trix protested. The enemy didn't listen. Wave after wave of assault troops pummeled e the Sane guys, waiting to leave for r home. s e Even when they were leaving, e the enemy fired at the planes. e You'd think that they didn't want e the war to end. "Happy New Year" di offensives became a monthly .affair. Who said New Year only icomes once a year? a After a great deal of grief from e the enemy attacking the departing troops, Sanity and friends decided that the thing to do was get a d mercenary force together and end d the war over there the same way it y had been ended in his country. So, d together, they filled up several e bombers with flowers and grass ~t and proceded to bombard the t enemy with flowers and grass. The enemy was shocked at the turn of 'events. Suddenly, they were on the ~'defensive. The flowers and grass "were grabbed up by the citizenry of 0 the enemies country. Now, they help 'he general degree of overall difficulty will be apparent, and in addiiion, will tell a bit about the student's persnality. There is a very real problem in this sort of program however, it could fail to attract the creative student for whom it was designed, and may become a "dumping ground" for many of the dumb kids who shouldn't be here in the first place. This may affect it s credibility in the future, but the transcript and grade sheet will probably be enough evidence of what was accomplished. Proper planning and ad ministration of the entire program will be vitally im portant to its success, and it is hoped that people who are iruly interested in positive results will be placed in charge of it. This university is saturated with mediocrity, and a new and promising program is no place for more of it. war the war effort that their leaders desired. Instead, they sat at home and smoked, intending to live happily ever after. President Trix complimented the members of the Sane Brigade for their gallant efforts in ending the war. He offered all of them places in the government, true to form. Wisely, they refused the jobs. President Trix and the leaders of the other side signed a peace treaty that could best be called a "no-fault" treaty. No one would receive the blame for strating the war and no side would pay reparations. With the war over, President Trix looked forward to the up coming election. He needed a stronger platform, so he called his top advisor, the Galloping Pole. The results of that historic talk will be revealed at a later time. Letters policy We print all letters we receive.
