Spring Thing is underway
and on Saturday, there will be
a blanket concert on the in
ramural field featuring Shawn
Phillips and Nils Lofgren with
Grin.
Shawn Phillips has been
described as ''a budding
superstar" and his mellow
sound has been called "good
music for the soul."
Backing Phillips will be Nils
Lofgren and Grin. The twenty
year-old Lofgren has built up

The University Union plans to
operate a day camp this summer
at USC's R. G. Bell recreation
facility in addition to the camp's
regular activity program.
The five two-week sessions will
begin June 5 for children ages 6 to
12 whose parents are either USC
students of faculty or staff
members participating in the
annual Bell Camp membership
program. The sessions begin June
5 and 19, and July 3, 17 and 31. A
special session for children with
learning disabilities begins Aug.
14.
The day camp will be staffed by
paid and volunteer USC graduate
and undergraduate students
directed by David Ness, University
Union director; Robert Alexander,
dean of student activities; and
graduate assistants Hank Pierson
and Johnston Dantzler.
The camp's activities will
feature lake and outdoor activities
including team sports and arts and
crafts.
Cost per child is $15 which in
cludes round-trip transportation
from Russell House and light
refreshments. Deadline for
registration for all sessions is May
10. A non-refundable $5 is required
with each application.
Bell Camp will also operate
under it's normal summer
schedule: 12 to 10 p.m. weekdays
and 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Waterfront hours are 12 to 7 p.m.
weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Lofgren's music, if you have
to categorize it, falls into the
Buffalo Springfield-early Neil
Young category, with a bit of
Stephen Stills thrown in.

so impressed with the group
