In the half-mile Jim Schaper

"Right now Jim is really a

coach Bill McClure com

quarter and if he can get it
down to 54 he will have no
trouble keeping the pace in the Jim Small

carried by Bostain who fired a first
round score of 71, followed by
Ramsey's 73, Max Poteet 73,
Jimmy Hamilton 76, Wade Mayo 76
and Larry Mattox 81. Only the top
four finishers were counted in both
matches.
The second day of competition
saw Ga. Southern's Rich Smith fire
a four under 68 only to be tied by
USC's Ramsey. Following Ramsey
were Hillman 72, Mayo 72, Bostain
74, Poteet 81 and Hamilton 82.
USC golf coach Dick Melton was
pleased with his team's play over
the 6700 yard Forrest Heights
course which has plenty of water
and sand to catch errant shots.
"We played real good as a team,
probably better than any time last
year." said Melton. Wylie
(Ramsey) is playing well and
scoring well, he's just hitting the
ball super. Buddy (Bostain) is also
playing really good golf."
The Gamecock's two day total of
579 was only three over par on a
course that Melton decribed as a
"thinking man's course." "This Is
a fine course and if you are not
careful you'll get in trouble. There
is lots of sand and water and it's
not hard to hit it out of bonds. I also
thought Hillman played extremely
well being a little cold and after not
competing in the first match."
