Athletics have misplaced priority DEAR MS. MILLER: I particularly enjoyed the guest column March 15 when you reprinted the 'Dietzel crisis" ar ticle from the Greevnille News. It C is about time more of us spoke up against the misplaced priorities here at the University. A person duped into believing athletics is rightfully given top priority in "Gamecock Country" might be termed a 'Cock s---er. DAVID ROBERTS 'Females too ugly to snag a man' DEAR MS. MILLER: All the recent controversy surrounding Women's Lib has incensed me. Why all this needless fuss anyway? All of this Equality for Women crap is nothing more than a feeble attempt at respect by a bunch of frustrated females who are either too ugly or too lazy to snag a man in the first place. I am quite serious! Ever since the early days of civilized existence, man has held the dominant role. Women, for the most part, were no better than slaves and were mainly used by their men to keep the race alive. "Baby Factories," I believe, is the cliche. "Right on" civilized man! The mere fact that men have kept up their role as master and have continued to dupe women for so long is proof enough that man possesses a superior intellect. He has trans formed women into a creature to be actually fussed over. Bad move, twentieth century man! Look at the mess you've made! You gave them the vote and it went to their heads. Now they're demanding that we pay their way, buy their dinner, even take them home at the end of the evening. How disgusting! What's happened to the good old days.? All men would be better off if women were relegated once more to their rightful roles as sex objects and - or servants. I am quite sure that most males un derstand and sympathize with my point of view. By now I'm sure that all you Women's Libbers out there are chanting "Male Chauvinist Pig," etc., etc. Sure,I'm a chauvinist, and with good reason. My mother waited hand and foot on my father and she loved every minute of it. I expect the same treatment from my wife. Most women, in fact reveal very obviously their desire to be dominated. Mini-skirts, hot pants, low-cut blouses, and the absence of bras are merely devices for the purpose of luring a man to bed ( the place where the woman is most useful, and she knows it ) The only reason that men choose to marry women is that they are usually more sexually appealing than other men. They also make good housekeepers. Notice that many unstable marriages are the result of bad sexual relationships or messy homes. Love is nothing more than a psychological situation dreamt up and ex pounded upon by writers and Hollywood producers. Dependency Get somebody high and show 'em 'round the town. Your folks. Your date. MILLER: I would like to take this op portunity to thank all of those students who worked and voted for me in the March 21 elections. It was a rewarding experience to see the many students who showed enough interest in my campaign to work for me. At the very least, we got people concerned with Student Govern ment who had not been before. DAVID POWERS Lobbyist hopes to achieve much DEAR MS. MILLER: The last two weeks have been very exciting. I think I am off to a good start as a lobbyist for the South Carolina State Student Legislature, and I believe we can accomplish a great deal during the remainder of the t9rm. I have attempted to meet more members of the General Assembly these past two weeks as well as to understand more fully legislative process. John Blacksh ire and Polly Spann were very helpful in in troducing me to some of their friends and acquaintances in the House and Senate. Also, Lt. Gov. Morris invited Polly and myself into his office Wednesday morning for an informal visit, and we ex hanged ideas about our aims. Currently, we have several bills f interest in various places in the Flouse and Senate. The Winthrop -o-ed Bill will probably be settled n the upcoming week. It appears hat Winthrop will have at least ome men on campus in the future. am not predicting hundreds of )oarding mape students next nor I !o-ed dorms at least not yet, but r ;ome men. In the House there recently r appeared a joint resolution for a constitutional amendment which t would have 18 year olds full legal 1 rights including the right to sit on juries. It was introduced by 14 Representatives Campbell, Earl, C and Frederick from Greenville, ~ and the proposed resolution was lebated Thursday, the House t( adjourned with the suggestion that ' sach legislator think about all that i s involved with the bill during the ' veekend.n TALL TEXAN M FRIDA Congratulations! . .. With the resolution goes the responsibilities of full legal age, including being fully responsible for one's contracts and the debt one can incur from them. Possibly this will adversely effect persons who are convicted of crimes, and those who are between the age of 18 and 21, in that they will no longer be considered minors under the law. This type of act requires a constitutional amendment since the Constitution controls this matter so a two-thirds vote of both the House and Senate is required. If approved, then it will be necessary to have the approval of the amendment by the voters in the state, probably in the November general election. (Just like the Mini Bottle Bill) Rep. Manning from Spartanburg told me Thursday that he thought the I bill would pass both of the Houses and the voters. But I believe, after listening to the debate Thursday that opposition could materialize. It will be interesting to see what develops next week. The bill which would put the President of the Student Body in the state supported schools on the Board of Trustees passed the House after being weakened and is now in the Senate Education Committee. The original bill which was introduced by Rep. Isadore Lourie from Richland County and Rep. Harris from Anderson County C provided that the President of the Student Body of these institutions 'shall be" exofficio, nonvoting members of the Board of Trustees )f the institution he attends and -epresents. The bill which passed C he 'House is not so strong as the word "may" has been substituted d 'or "shall". Rep. Lourie told me Nednesday, however, that if the 4 ni )enate passes the bill with "shall" ie believes the House may go ilong and pass this stronger t vording. At any rate, either one is in improvement over the current r ituation. d Thursday Sen. One other item of interest, the final version of the Mini-Bottle passed both Houses and wil be up for approval by the voters, during the fall election. It was a com promise version of the Hoi and Senate bills and it places a rather high tax on each bottle (25 cents per bottle plus liquor and sales taxes). The revenue which is proposed to come from the bill is over $10 million per year. Registered students in South Carolina will be able to vote on this in November. With the new 18 year old vote, Dur repressentatives are becoming more aware of the student opinion. They are now more attentive to young people since we could represent such a large part of the voting public. The etition circulated bearing ECO 0's name was not an action by the Irganization. Terrell) it 'as stated that ECO's had en orsed the blockage of the idening of Pickens Street. This is At correct. ECO 70's is interested i this issue, but has not yet come > a decision concerning the roposed plans.
