Ms. St joke' t( By Christine Schwelckert Staff Writer The Faculty Senate took the idea of establishing a commission to study the proposal for a joint Senate as a joke, according to Julianne Still, Student Body vice president. Ms. Still and Student Sen. Tom Stoudemire presented the idea for a study commission to the Faculty Senate Wednesday afternoon. "W're trying to improve the Kinsolvin on Chur< By Judith Niewladomski Out-of-wedlock pregnancy and venereal disease are the two basic reasons why the Church is against premarital sex, according to the Rev. Lester Kinsolving, who spoke Thursday as part of Women in Focus week. The Rev. Mr. Kinsolving, who is a journalist as well as a militant priest, said the Church's real objection was based on the harm that out-of-wedlock pregnancies and VD can do. He said there is no real Biblical statement against premarital sex. Biblical admonitions against fornication, he said, were actually directed against adultery. "The sexual standards of the Bible don't remain static," the Rev. Mr. Kinsolving said. "In Biblical times, there was no such thing as premarital sex. People were married as soon as they could breed. Premarital sex developed later." Technological advances in both contraception and VD will "wipe out most of the real Christian reasons against premarital sex," he said.. But, Kinsolving emphasized, "I think that the Church, the school and the home will always be op posed to and should be opposed to promiscuity." He gave no specific definition of promiscuity, but described as promiscuous :rill: st SFa cul University governance as a whole," Ms. Still said. She said the Student Senate is not trying to reduce the power of the Faculty Senate. Sen. Stoudemire said he thought the faculty members who had spoken out at the meeting were against the legislation proposed by the Student Senate. He said they seemed to think the proposal "was out of order." "They regard us as nothing more than what they are-- which is a joke," Stoudemire said. He told ig gives 01 h's sexua situations in which no real af fection was involved or one person was being exploited for the sexual gratification of the other.
