"The future is now" may have
been an appropriate slogan for
George Allen and his Washington
Redskins, but it is definitely not the
catch phrase for Glenn Wilkes and
the Stetson Hatters.
Wilkes is trying to build a major
college powerhouse from a team
who just this year moved from the
small college classification to the
University Division. The Hatters 5
16 record indicates the difficulty
they have run across.
"I've enjoyed this season,"
Wilkes claims. "I can take a losing
season because I know we are
building for the future."
The Hatter's record is quite a fall
from the 18-6 mark they ran up last
year while on their way to the
NCAA Small College Eastern
Regionals.
"We're just struggling by this
year," the veteran Hatter coach
said. "It's a big step to the
University division, much bigger
than many people realize."
In Wednesday night's loss to
Carolina, it was evident that
Stetson lacks the personnel to
