"We can't lose money on this
concert. There's a chance that we
can get Santana this spring and if
we lose money on this concert, we
can't do it. It will also hurt the
other things we have planned for
this semester," said Tom DiFiglio,
chairman of the University Union
Concert Committee.
He was speaking about the up
coming Don McLean concert that
will be this Sunday in Township
Auditorium. Admission for the
concert is $2 for students.

Don McLean
i Here !
McLean's single "American
Pie" is currently highly rated on
the charts and is probably the most
popular song around right now.
Everyone seems to be humming
about driving a Chevy to the levee
as they toddle on to class.
McLean will do a two hour set.
He will be the only performer. He
has been around a long time and
his show is said to be really ex
ceptional.

this lack of support.
If one of the hottest American
artists around today played to a
half-empty hall, it would reflect
badly on the University.
Township Auditorium is a nice
intimate hall. It would seem to be
the perfect place to hold the Don
McLean concert. It's small and
nowhere do you have to strain to
hear. McLean's type of music is
well suited for this type of
auditorium.
The price is quite reasonable and
nothing is happening on Sunday
evenings, really. So why not go see
the concert and support your
concert committee ?

In the planning for the past
five years, Central Library
construction will begin no later
than July, Libraries Director
Kenneth E. Toombs, said.
Central Library, to be added
to the back of Thomas Cooper
(Undergraduate) Library, will
have seven and one-half acres
of floor space with four floors
under ground.
At present the McKissick
Library, which has a capacity
for 35,000 volumes, houes one
half million volumes.
About 50,000 volumes are
stored in the undergraduate
library, however, Toombs
said, these books are available
to students.

librarian, said there are some

said.
The education library and
McKissick will be incorporated
into Central Library, Toombs
said. Plans are not final for
McKissick's future use.
Central Library will feature
such devices as electronically
treated books which will
trigger a switch and lock the
door, should a student try to
steal the book.
Also Central will have an
audio-visual department,
typing room, microfilm area
and a technical information
center, Toombs said.
Central will be staffed by
more than 100 full-time em
ployees and will cost about $10
million to build.
