Carolina's swimming team defeated the University of
North Carolina, 60-53, Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill. It
was USC's f irst swimming victory ever over the Tar Heels.
Carolina's record now stands at 2-0.
The victory was especially satisfying since UNC is
reputed to have their fastest, strongest team in several
years and are considered in solid contention for the
coveted ACC crown.
Assistant coach John Cahill termed the victory, "the
greatest dual meet performance in Carolina's history"".
The meet saw an almost complete destruction of the
Carolina record books. In the victory, the swimmers
established four school records, 22 season'*s best times,
and 13 career best times.
The score fluctuated between the H M
teams. Going into the last event,
the 400 yard freestyle relay, the
score was knotted at 53-53. The
USC team of Roger Rice, Chip

Other officers include Secretary
Dice McCullough and Treasuret

Thus far in the season, the
keglers have posted a '2-2 recqd,
with decisive wins over eferison
and the Citadel. Losses have come
at the hands of Tennessee and
kppalachian State, as Dwight.

with 190 and 187, respectively.
Other high honors for the team
during each match were
