"I am optimistic about this
group of freshman," said Biddie
coach Jackie Powers following his
team's 35-21 setback to Georgia in
their season finale. "They are a
good bunch of boys that can help us
out on the varsity in many ways."

successive losses to Georgia Tech

games, still praised his talented
players. "The Georgia Tech game
and the first half of the North
Carolina State game were our
worst games offensively, but in the
of hers, I think we played as well as
we could have."
The Biddie mentor expressed a
bit of surprise that leading rusher
and scorer Tom Zipperly paced the
offensive statistics. "We just didn't
expect him to be as strong as he
is," Powers stated. "I knew that he
had the speed, but we weren't
aware that he had such speed."
The loss to Georgia, which
dropped the Biddies to a 3-2 season
record, was termed by Powers as
fhe result of being out-manned.
"They (Georgia) dressed out 58
players to our 32. They had 30
backs and ends dressed, while we
only have 32 men on our team.

"Their offensive line is as good
as any we have faced," Powers
continued. "They are a real power
football team. Their tailback,
Horace King, is the best football
player we have played against this
year. He rushed for 161 yards in
our loss. He is as good or better
than Jimmy Poulos, and Poulos is
starting for the varsity now.
"They really moved us out on the
line. But we came back in the
second half and really made a
game of it. We were behind by only
seven points. Then they got an
interception and recovered a
fumble and put two quick ones on
the board.
"But we didn't give up," he
concluded. "This has been what
it's been like all season with these
boys. We have nothing to be
ashamed of."
