Maryland's Terrapins, sporting
a deceptive 1-4 record, march into
the Cockpit tomorrow night with
hopes of. repeating last year's
Ishocking upset of the Carolina
Gamecocks.
Last season the Gamecocks
ventured to Maryland owning a
fine 3-1-1 record to face the 0-5
Terps. Lead by the running of star
fullback Art Seymour's 111 yards
and some Carolina kicking
mistakes, the Terps overcame an
early 7-0 USC lead, jumped ahead
21-7, and finally prevailed 21-15.
Following the upset loss to the
Terps, the Gamecocks proceeded
to drop successive games to
Florida State. Georgia, Tennessee
and Duke enroute to a dismal 4-6-1
finish.
"We are playing a team which
ruined our season and our
disposition iast year. A lot of us
have a few things to remember,"
said Coach Paul Dietzel.
Returning from the injured list
for Carolina is tailback Billy Ray
Rice, the leading Carolina rusher
despite the fact that he missed the
Virginia game. Rice has gained 4.2
yards per carry for 159 yards to
pace the Gamecocks.
Earlier it was hoped that
fullback Chuck Mimms and
tailback Mark De Camilla would
also return to action this week, but
their conditions dictate another
week's layoff.
Quarterback Glenn Morris is
still an uncertain starter as his
