Baker, a chem ical engineering professor at USC since,194# is a candidate for the National Director of AICHE (The American In stitute of Chemical Engineering). If elected National Director, his job will include assisting chemical engineers in. reaching their professional goals and setting thLpolicles of the AICHE. ker says that he will try to "improve ,the Image of chemical engineers as pro. fessional people." He feels that the AICHE must "watch the trend of the times" and "keep up with what Is going on in educational opportunities for chemical engineering." Also he believes the AICHE should help solve the unemployment problem of engineers "caused pertly by the cutback of the NASA proqram." The National Director of AICHE is voted on by the ntire memberldp of about 40,000 people. There are 12 National Directors each ser ving a three year term. Four are to be elected this year. Eight have been nominated by Hundley to hike for credit BY WAYNE FORDt Staff Writer USC student George Hundley will hike acmas the country and hopes to receive college credit for it. Hundley is participating in an experimental education progrant, University Without Walls (UWW), designed to allow stude*ts the opportunity for experiences out side the classroom and operates on the belief that the student must have a major voice in determining his own curriculum, "It's something I have to do," Hundley said. "P'm kinda stuck with ltabecause I've made up my mind," He hopes to get a letter from (ov, John West explaining that he is not a vagrant, hundley is growing a beard but will get his hair cut. He said, "People long ago had to face danger, but I'll probably have more trouble with drunken drivers and motorcycle gangs. Maybe I'll get thrown in jail, but I hope there won't be much trouble," He plans to leave the first of .January. He was appointed by the governor to study the sorage of waste of nuclear materials In South Carolina. Also, he teaches a T.V. program for graduate students in waste disposal called APOGEE (A program on Graduate Enginereering Education.) He feels "polutlon Is a vital concern of chemical engineers, and It will be their Job to clean up the water, air and land."
