FARRELL: It is churlish to complain after having received such a spread for the Honors Program in English, but I should correct several inaccuracies in the story. I did not say that this was the University's only four-year program, but the only four-year HONORS program. I believe that is true, but the History Depart ment also requires a thesis of graduating seniors. FARRELL: In your article "English Lec tures Spotlight History" (Monday, September 20,1971) you quoted Dr. Dunlap of the English Department as saying that he believed the English Department had the only four-year honors program at U.S.C. and that.his is the only department that requires a senior thesis. Given the context of Dr. Dunlap's statement, I assume that by "a senior thesis" he was referring to an "honors thesis." Either the Gamecock misquoted Professor Dunlap or his beliefs need correction. The Philosophy Department has of fered a four-year program in honors work for several years. The department also requires an honors thesis from those of its majors who remain in the program to the time of their graduation. Foster E. Taft Philosophy Dept. WUSC-FM manager is Mitchell MR.
