As part of a series of clinics for law students, the Student Clinic consists of 11 Law School up r classmeh who are participating the program to gain "some supervised experienced in working with an actual client," said Bill Toal of the USC Law School. BY ALICE POTTER Staff Writer Students, faculty and ad ministration officials will discusm University academic problems and affairs the weekend of Oct 1. The conference evolved from last spring's Think Tank assembly at Cherry Grove and a committee formed to discuss USC academic affairs. Meeting throughout the summer, committee members concentrated on such problems as the academic atmoshere of the University and its academic image throughout the state and nation. The Academic Conference headed by Steve Cannon, began planning the October meeting last spring and invitations were issued to sUtuIR today. Cannon said several mem present Sept. 16 "Jazz and Pop" and the "Village Voice". His fiction includes "Call The Keeper, Onwards! ," "Jazz Country" and "Really Dragged But Nothing Gets Me Down." Among his non-fiction books are "The New Equality," "Our Children Are Dying," "Peace Agitator," "The Story of A. J Muste," "A Doctor Among The Addicts," "The Jazz Life" and "A Political Life; The Education Of John V. Lindsay." All this is in addition to his many contributions to a. wide range of periodicals, his increasing number of appearances on important lecture platforms throughout the country and his work with students at New York University and other campuses on independent studies programs. The only situations the clinic will not handle are criminal cases, wherein they would be limited to advising the student of con stitutional rights and helping him obtain a lawyer, and cases where the student stands to gain or lose money, such as in an automobile accident claim. Other than those two cases, the clinic will help with any problem, whether it is con faculty, C academi berships are open to interested students. He said potential conference members from the student body at large should contact Pat Dragner in the Student Government office. "This is not going to be a hectic, crowded conference," Cannon said. "However, it will be more structured due to the fact that we will be heading in a specific direction. "Friday night we hope to discover specific areas which need to be covered. Saturday, small groups will form to discuss these specifics and possible solutions to any problems in the area of academics," Cannon said. Discussion will center around immediate problems as well as lAIg ran5 oas, hA sA. "We want to get at things that can be corrected easily. The people who will be there are the ones who can get things done; although I want to stress that we are not limited to the ideas expressed by faculty and administrators. It is necessary that the student participants be actively involved in this meeting."
