Students, faculty and ad

University academic problems
and affairs the weekend of Oct 1.
The conference evolved from
last spring's Think Tank assembly
at Cherry Grove and a committee
formed to discuss USC academic
affairs.
Meeting throughout the summer,
committee members concentrated
on such problems as the academic
atmoshere of the University and
its academic image throughout the
state and nation.
The Academic Conference
headed by Steve Cannon, began
planning the October meeting last
spring and invitations were issued
to sUtuIR today.

his rights are in the partioglar

needed.
The only situations the clinic will
not handle are criminal cases,
wherein they would be limited to
advising the student of con

obtain a lawyer, and cases where
the student stands to gain or lose
money, such as in an automobile
accident claim. Other than those
two cases, the clinic will help with

He said potential conference
members from the student body at
large should contact Pat Dragner
in the Student Government office.
"This is not going to be a hectic,
crowded conference," Cannon
said. "However, it will be more
structured due to the fact that we
will be heading in a specific
direction.
"Friday night we hope to
discover specific areas which need
to be covered. Saturday, small
groups will form to discuss these
specifics and possible solutions to
any problems in the area of
academics," Cannon said.
Discussion will center around
immediate problems as well as

want to get at things that can be
corrected easily. The people who
will be there are the ones who can
get things done; although I want to
stress that we are not limited to the
ideas expressed by faculty and
administrators. It is necessary
that the student participants be
actively involved in this meeting."

nected with the University or not,
said Craig Davis, a clinic member.
The clinic is particularly in
terested in students' rights cases,
according to Davis. "Anytime a
student thinks he is getting a shaft
on from the University, we'd like to
hear about.
"When a student feels he needs
his advice, he may call the law
school at 777-8194 and set up an
appointment with the student
clinic. He should state the nature of
his problem, since members of the
clinic do specialize in certain areas
juch as drug laws and the draft,"
said Davis.
