Tech. For three quarters it should
be a close contest but in the fourth
quarter when Tech keeps sending
in its fresh players the gap should
widen. Unfortunately in the wrong
direction. Tech 28, USC 13.
SEC meets ACC. End result:
SEC rout. That formula has held
true for many years and no reason
to end now, even though the SEC
school, Kentucky, is not the best in
the league. The ACC school,
Clemson, is not the best in that
league. SEC-ACC-Kentucky 27,
Clemson 10.
The top match of the initial
weekend is probably the Southern
California game with Alabama on
the coast. The game is set for

Carolina defensive halfback
Dick Harris has been named to the
1971 pre-season All-America
football team published by Family
Weekly magazine. More than 200
sports editors of newspapers
subscribing to Family Weekly, a
Sunday newspaper supplement,
chose the 22 man squad. Harris,
who last year as a junior was
named to three All-America
teams, previously was chosen to
the pre-season All-South squad
chosen by Southern Living
magazine.
There are nine Georgians on the
USC football squad that opens the
1971 season Saturday night against
Georgia Tech. Defensive end
Roger Toy and offensive guard
John Dubac, both sophomores, are
from Atlanta: quarterback Robbie
Snake> Davis and defensive
tackle Jim Burke, both
sophomores, are from Savannah;
linebackers Greg Crabb, a senior,
and Chan Beasley, a junior, are
from Dublin; senior defensive
tackle Kin <Bucki Wheat is from
Milledgeville; sophomore tailback
Carlton Haywood is from Macon;
and sophomore center Richard
Simmons is from Columbus.
Four members of the 1971
Carolina varsity football squad
played their high school ball under
coach Pinky Babb at Greenwood
High School,. The Gamecocks
developed by the veteran coach
who has sent miany of his players to
the collegiate ranks are defensive
backs Tyler Hellams and Neville
Files, offensive tackle Bob Morris
and center Mack Stone. Uinman
Gerald Witt of.- the Gamecock
freshman squad also played under.
