Someone is beating a woman.
In the.car that is dark and hot
Only the whites of her eyes shine.

In the grass lashing with nettles.
Seum, how meticulously he beats her,
Stilyaga. bastard, big her;
His smart flatiron-pointed shoe
Stabbing into her ribs.
Such are the pleasures of enemy soldiers
And the brute refinements of peasants.
Trampling underfoot the moonlit grass,
Someone is beating a woman.

It's the young that are beaten. Somberly

Fashion show
Late. Late Movie Looks" are a feature of Glamour's "America Al
Fresco" fashion show, to be staged, at 8 p.m. tomorrow, in the Russell
House Assembly Room. Mrs. Walter C. Putnam models the "Flapper"
look. with a packable, polyester, butter-fly sleeve mini; a Clara Bow.
crushable-crochet cap; and yellow espadrilles. Mrs. Thomas Heyward
McTeer shows an exotic surfer, bra-bikini set, with a Dorothy Lamour
Sarong. straight out of a late, late TV movie.
It is presented by White's and sponsored by the Carolina Married
Students Club. to benefit the Scholarship Fund. Mrs. Timothy P. Ryan is
chairman and Mrs. J. Pierre Le Coq is coordinator of the show.

Chairmen
appointed
by senate
Chairmen appointments for
student government committees
were approved during the April 14
senate meeting.
Julianne Still, vice president of
student government, announced
her nominations for chairmen of
the six committees. Approved
were Koger Bradford, Campus
Community Relations; Clint Sloan,
Athletics: Bobby Thompson,
Finance: Fred Magner, Powers
and Responsibilities; Rita
McKinney and David Spinazola,
Residence Life: and Tim Car
penter. Academic.
Veteran and novice senators
raised a question concerning the
method of approving Still's ap
pointments. Senator Ellen Corley
presented a motion which would
allow for a committee composed of
at -iarge senators to consider the
nominations. The motion was
defeated. Corley said that such a
committee considered chairmen
nominees last year.
Senator Bradford, District 6,
said he felt that the formation of
such a committee would only delay
the approval of nominees.
Cheryl Moore, district 5, said,
They're trying to railroad this
thing through."
The Athletics and Residence Life
Committees are new committees
and must be approved by the Rules
Committee. The Rules Committee
is composed of the vice president,
president pro tem of the senate,
and committee chairmen.

good. He portrays the man cast
adrift between the shores of
racism. not truely at peace with
Indians or whites.
The film succeeds because it
does not take itself too seriously.
Instead of constantly harping on
the acknowledged atrocities done
to Indians. "Little Big Man."
shows how Hoffman manages to
adapt to his situation.
"Little Big Man" is not fault
free . it does tend to "over en
tertain." Too often. the film por
trays the Indians as refugees from
''" Troop." There is also too much
effort to lighten the violence. The
mass killing and slaughter ( except
for one scene >is sugar-coated so as
to avoid cutting off the portion of
the audience that came to be en
tertained.
Overall, the best performance
was turned in by Chief Dan George
who was up for best supporting
actor.
"Little Big Man" is a~ com
promise. It is hip, but not so hip
t hat it t urns off people over 30. It is
topical, but it is also entertaining.
Most of all, "Little Big Man" is
good. See it -- Palmetto Theatre.
