formation obtained from the
survey will be made without the
authority of President Thomas F.
Jones. Any reports of information
based on this survey will be in the
form of summary statistics and no
individual responses will be cited.
The purpose of the survey is "to
keep up with drug impact at USC to
help with drug education
programming," according to a
university official.
A drug survey report released
lasf December said that "the scope
of hard drug usage on the USC
campus has not reached serious
proportions. However, the sam
plings do suggest the potential for
a serious drug abuse problem."
It also said that' "there is a
demonstrated need, already
recognized by USC officials, for a
concentrated education program
among students and potential
students concerning the inherent
dangers in frequent or regular use
or drugs"

Officers for the Student Union
were named Wednesday by the
Union's President-elect Ron
Bifani.
Virginia McMillan was ap
pointed vice-president of en
tertainment, Bill Hummers will
serve as vice-president of creative
activities, Mike Ewalt will be vice
president of financial affairs and
Deborah Wright will be secretary.
Bifani who will take office on
May 3 at the Student Union awards
banquet. said that the newly ap
pointed vice-presidents are
"people who are interested in the
Union and interested in serving the
students."
Bifani said that his aim as
president of the Union is to
'escalate" student activities.
"Something I want to do is to
improve the image of the Student
Union," Bitfani said.
"All students are members (of
the Union)," Bifani said, "but not
all are active." He said that to be
an active member constitutes
serving on a committee. He in
dicated that there are about 244)
active members.
A junior majoring in geology,
Hitani said that he wants "good
relat ions wit h Student Government
and the Gamecock. We both try to
provide some of the same servies.

Sometimes we have a dual con
flict," Bifani said.
He indicated that better
relations could be achieved by
putting "our forces together in a
positive direction and in this way
provide more for the students."
A problem that Bifani says the
Gamecock can help solve is that of
entertainment. He said "selecting
entertainment is a problem like
better participation. Concerts can
be a big thing if you get the groups
people want."
To solve that problem Bifani
says that a Student Union calendar
could be published once a week in
The Gamecock.
All committees have started
planning for next year Bifani said.

A newly formed recreations
committee will set up tournaments
for such games as bridge, pool and
ping pong. According to Bifani the
committee is arranging everyday
transportation to Bell Camp during
the summer, and more facilities
and entertainment for Bell Camp.
Bifani said that he hopes all
students will participate in the
Student Union activities. He said
"I'd like to make this the year of
the students."
