C. 29208 Monday, April 5, 1971 New USC bu Nursir are un The annual Viana Mc Cown Lecture in Nursing at USC was the occasion Friday for the unveiling of plans for a new College of Nursing building at USC. Prior to the lecture, given this year by Dr. Dorothy Ann Mereness, dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, USC's Vice President for Business Affairs Harold Brunton introduced an architect's drawing of the proposed new structure. Brunton said construction on the facility is expected to W gin next year and should ie completed in 1973. The building 'will be located on Green Street and will en compass an area now oc cupied by the Rice House and some adjacent land. The new structure will provide facilities for all nursing education programs at Carolina, Brunton said, including the associate degree and baccalaureate programs and a proposed master's degree program. Funding of the new building was aided by a gift of $500,000 from the estate of the late Mrs. Martha l liams Brice of Sumter. nephews and executors Bifani ele of Univer Rton Bif ani, a junior geology major, was elected president of the USC' Student Union last Thursday night. The fourth and fifth floors will provide classrooms, offices and additional laboratories. The building will be named in honor of the Williams-Brice family. Bifani said he wants to establish a section in the Gamecock designated particularly for the Union. One of his main concern is concerts, he said. "The Coliseum has failed to cooperate with the Union and it is the only adequate place to present a concert. Outside agents were booking concerts at prices above those offered by the Union." Hifani said he feels the Coliseum situation has been straightened out due to efforts of the Coliseum Committee. He added that next year the Union wants bigger and better concerts for students. Hemphill apologized last Thursday to first year law student Victoria Eslinger for a remark he made which, had it been misinterpreted, could have embarrassed her. Miss Eslinger is seeking a Federal Court order to be hired as 4 a page after she was turned down for the job by the Senate staff. During a discussion of a page's duties to get things from senators' motel rooms Hemphill commented to lawyers that "perhaps that is the opportunity your client seeks." The judge said the remark had been "misinterpreted by others to cast some reflection" on Miss Eslinger.
