ECO 70's
planning
picket trip
ECO 70's will meet tonight to
make signs and final preparations
for their trip to Greenville
tomorrow.
The meeting will be in room 208
Russell House, at 8:30 p.m.
The organization will go to
Greenville to picket the Fouke Fur
Company which is holding a public
auction of its processed seal skins.
They will leave at 5:45 a.m.
Thursday.
ECO 70's is picketing the com
pany because of "senseless
slaughter of the Alaskan fur seals"
according to Scott Holtzclaw,
president of ECO 70's.
"We are firmly behind the
Harris-Pryor bill which was in
troduced in both houses of
congress last Thursday," Holtz
claw said. "It calls for the re
negotiating of the treaties between
four countries; Japan Russia,
Canada and the United States. It
also' forbids the importation of the
skins of any mammals which in
cludes the baby Canadian fur
seals. They are killed when only
six to eight weeks old for their
white fur."
Holtzclaw estimates the present
number of participants at 15 to 20.
"It is imperative that students who
are going on the trip come to the
meeting," he said.

NewDay
to march
Editors note: The following
statement was released to the
Gamecock last night by the New
Day Coalition.
The New Day Coalition is calling
on all progressive and freedom
minded South Carolinians to join
them and march on the State
Capitol this Saturday, April 3.
Trhe march is to protest the
government's continued war on the
Indochinese people as well as on
the poor people at home and those
who struggle for freedom and
justice. Following are the three
focal points of the march:
1) The removal of all US forces
and materials from Indochina;
SET THE DATE.
21 A guaranteed annual income of
$6,500) for a family of four; SET
THE DATE.
3) An immediate halt to all
political trials and the release ol
A LL political prisoners; SET THE
DATE.
The Vietnam and Indochinese
war has reached a crisis, as a
result of the sound defeat of the
allied forces In the Laos Invasion.
Thieu and Ky are contemplating
invasion of the North. The US has
stepped up bombing attacks on the
North and Is conducting the most
massive of the war. All this is at a
time when 73 per cent of the
American people want a complete
withdrawal from Indochina. We
must step up our protest before th4
Vietnamese people, as well as
laaotian and Cambo4iian peoples
are annihilated. We realize that the
people of Vietnam are not ouw
from New York, will be ap

enemies and we endorse the
People to People Peace Treaty,
negotiated by the people of Viet
nam and the US.
'We must end the war so that we
can begin to turn our attention to
the needs of the American people
and let the people reap the benefits
of our prosperous society. We
demand that the Federal govern
ment provide a $6500 guaranteed
annual income for a family of four
so that each citizen will be able to
live with at least with the
necessities of food, decent housing
and clothing. With the over
whelming wealth of our country
and with the most advanced
technology in the world, there is no
rational reason why this cannot be
achieved.
We demand that the United
States government and its
subordinates stop the political
repression of those who raise their
voices against the injustices of our
society. We demand that all
political trials be stopped and all
political prisoners be released.
Let it also not be forgotten, that
the racism which is perpetuated
against people of color here in
America is the same racism that
allows the US to conduct a war on
the people of color in Indochina.
TIhis weekend is the third an
niversary of the murder of Martin
Luther King, and let us never let
America forget it. Let us carry on
D lr. King's cries for freedom,
peace and justice forward and
assemble at the Russell House at 1
p.m. and march to the Capitol for a
rally.
