For their benefit herewith is the transcript of a press conference with a hitherto unimpeached source who kindly consented to explain the President's explanations. Q - Sir, Hanoi has repeatedly said it will not release our prisoners of war until we withdraw our last troops from Vietnam. Yet the President said we will never withdraw our last troops from Vietnam until they release our prisoners of war. Can you explain this? A -- Certainly. This shows the President's first concern is for our prisoners of war and it will remaira his first concern for years and years to come. Q - We understood him to say that protecting American troops in Vietnam was his first concern. A - Exactly. He made it per fectly clear that the sole reason we still have so many troops in Vietnam is to protect our troops in Vietnam. That is why we are supporting the South Vietnamese incursion into Laos. BEEiBE, Concerning my letter to the Gamecock on March 10, I ap parently must clarify what was said because some people didn't understand exactly what I meant. I am NOT against Open House - quite the opposite, I am all for it. I tried myself to get people rounded up to come and vote for it in South Building. I simply state that we didn't have our privacy. The referendum did not pass in our dorm, South Building, because not enough people voted to make a majority. The officers of the dorm U are trying to do something to remedy the situation now. I per sonally offered to help them. So again I repeat that I am FOR open house. It's a great idea but give us privacy hours. I also want to thank those few boys that found it necessary to call me and say their few choice words.
