good a team for that. They have too many good
ballhandlers."
USC led at the half 42-41 despite the fine State

"Aydlett and Carver shot well from outside
for them and they were very effective at
holding the ball,"Sloan continuel. "I don't know
how to explain the difference between our first
half and our second but I'm sure South Carolina
had a lot to do with it."
Tom Owens, USC's 6-11 forward had a lot to
do with it. Owens switched to the hot Leftwich
in the second half and s him off. Leftwich hit
only one of five in the second half and several
times had to pass off aft r going up for a shot

"Owens is the best defensive player in the
conference," McGuire 6aid. "We switched him
because Leftwich was having a fantastic
game. Owens stopped him completely. He
proved he was the best aqain tonight."
OkC All-America John .Roche led the second

points. Owens had 11 points and 15 rebounds,
Rick Aydlett had 12 points and Bob Carver and
Tom Riker 10 each.
McGuire had plenty of praise for Roche. "He
plays 94 feet of basketball. He was really tired
at the end of the game. He's chased con
