USC tackl in last hoi By DOUG WILLIAMS Asst. Sports Editor The Demon Deacons of Wake Forest bring the Charlie Davis show into Carolina Coliseum tonight for an 8:00 match up with the fired up Carolina Gamecocks, fresh from a resounding victory over the University of Houston. Davis, a 6-1 guard, currently leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring, hitting at an even 27.0 point clip over the Deacons' 21 games. Wake, behind the all, round play of Davis, brings a 5-5 ACC record into the meeting, along with 14-7 overall mark. Among their conference wins is a big win over North Carolina earlier this season. Although he has ample support, Davis is the key to the Wake offensive attack. He has a .489 field goal percentage, and an even more remarkable .857 mark from the charity stripe. Gil McGregor, a 6-7 center, is Wake's second leading scorer with a 13.4 scoring output per game. He is also the top man on the boards for the Deacs, grabbing an average of 9.9 stray shots per outing. The only remaining Deacon in double figures is forward Neil Pastushok, who averages 12.6 points. He ranks first on the team in field goal percentage, with a sparkling .514. McGregor is a very close second at .513. Rounding out the top players for Wake Forest are 6-5 forward Rich Habegger, who maintains a 5.9 scoring average, and 6-3 backcourt man 0a Lewis pla cocks rou Hy TI':Y 'HEFFNER rebound then yot Sports :ditor The same with b The way John Roche had been st iii trying to clo going the last five games. 33.7 iled. referrin average. it only seemed mio referrin reasonable that if you shut off two rand i Roche then you could beat USC.
